A lot of you don’t know this, but I know how it feels how not to have a home.
One afternoon as I came home from school, there it was, our home, getting burned right in front of my very eyes. My mom was crying, hugging me so I won’t see what was going on. But I remember everything clearly. That was what taught me that anytime we could lose everything.
We moved to a small space, and I remember seeing my aunt crying when she saw our living quarters. Sounds pitiful I know, but I never felt the need for pity, or being pitied upon. Learned the value of hard work. Saw how my mother rose with courage, put up a thriving business so that she could singlehandedly support seven kids through school.
Now as an adult, with whatever life I have worked hard to achieve, life still isn’t always perfect. I was going through something in my life, and instead of just staying home to sulk, I decided to go out and reach out. My friend KC Concepcion brought me to the Virlanie Foundation, the beneficiary for many of our fund raisers. I knew we were supporting them through donations, but this one time, we went there to give the donations ourselves.
I carried in my arms this baby boy who I called Piolo (KC had no inkling then about her future). The kids of Virlanie sang to us, hugges ua, made cards for us. We came in with donations but their generosity of heart made us realize how lucky we are. Some of the girls singing to us were abused, one of them raped, at such a tender age. The baby I was holding in my arms was left in the garbage and is now being housed in one of Virlanie’s 12 homes.
What I love about Virlanie as a foundation, aside from the fact that they have 12 permanent homes in the city is that it promotes something that is sustainable. That charity is NOT pity. It is empowerment. Enabling street children with a mindset that yes, they can succeed, that the buck doesn’t stop right there.
Empowerment is what drove me to continue on with this campaign to spread the love by clicking the LIKE. With just a few simple steps, we can empower kids to make them realize that yes, it is possible for them to have a brighter future.
Pls help me help them.
Pls like the egg I designed for the kids of Virlanie. The most number of LIKES from the Easter Eggxibit organized by Eastwood City and Newport City gets P100,000 for his chosen charity. the entire amount is going to the 400kids of the Virlanie Foundation.
First, you have to LIKE the Eastwood City Facebook page, on this link here.
After that, you have to look for the Tim Yap-Virlanie egg and click LIKE.
That constitutes ONE vote.
Next, pls go to the Newport City Facebook page, LIKE the page here.
After LIKING the page, you can place your vote by clicking LIKE once again on the Tim Yap-Virlanie egg.
That constitutes another vote.
The combined number of votes will determine who the winner will be.
This is not a contest of ego for me, not a PR thing nor is it something I need to prove to myself. I just want to be able to give back to the kids who have shown me that life can be simple, that we can be happy no matter what situation we’re in.
Sometimes it is the simplest things that make us realize how beautifully complex everything is.
We can do our part. Pls share this story, repost the link on ypur profile and LIKE, LIKE, LIKE. h more likes we get by promoting it to our friends, the better for the kids.
Let’s do it for them. Let’s pay it forward.
